Sunday Stats(1)

*Since my family first got an NES, I’ve had a controller in my hands. Exploring new worlds, meeting new characters and experiencing stories… in some ways, I’ve just connected better with the world through games. However, it’s also very important to me to be present in my life, to improve myself, to go out and MEET the people I’ve connected with online and to expand my knowledge. I spend hours in games; how do I level myself up?

In this weekly series, I’ll chronicle how I’ve improved my “stats” with completely arbitrary scoring.*

-2 Intelligence – How did I make myself a little smarter? What did I learn?
I have been seriously slacking on this stat. I have my coding classes to take, guitar to learn and tarot to master. I need to pick at least one of those things to focus on for September. I AM learning that planning even a small wedding is kind of fun, but still not totally drama free.

+2 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
On Monday night, Ryan and I had reservations at Tavern on the Green – one of the most iconic restaurants in NYC. It was another excuse to get all dressed up and teach him which utensils to use when.

+2 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
I crushed it at the gym all week. If I couldn’t get myself up earlier enough to go in the morning, I forced myself to go after work. It felt really great.

+1 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
I’ve been a bit eyerolly and irritable this week so I took Friday to disconnect from everyone (except work) and binged ALL of Disenchantment on Netflix where I met my most relatable princess and a demon with life advice I just can’t ignore!

+3 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
We won our skeeball game and ranked 2nd in our league at the end of the regular skeeson. Next stop: Playoffs! I also discovered my new favorite (and sadly super limited edition) sour beer – Fistful of Rubies from Big aLICe Brewing is tart, sweet and just like an explosion of raspberry goodness.

+5 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
HUGE news! On Monday, I got a PROMOTION! And with that promotion comes an unbelievable raise that puts me well over a long held goal and plants me firmly and officially in the Six Figure Club. You have no idea how hard I have worked for this.

Nutrition is hard. How the fuck are humans supposed to balance all the things our bodies need in less than 1500 calories? Also, why is fruit suddenly gigantic? Peaches used to be a little larger than plums when I was a kid and now they’re practically the size grapefruits used to be before they became the size that cantaloupes used to be.

+2 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
It’s a small thing, but my nails are long! I didn’t chew them off this week. Hopefully they’ll survive until I can make a nail appointment.

+1 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
My weigh-ins are Mondays so this update is almost outdated, but as of Monday this week, I lost 3.2 lbs! In just my first week. I’ll need to remember this moment when I hit a wall, get frustrated and almost give up. I’m glad I don’t have a scale at home!

+2 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
It was not a good week. I spent a lot of time wallowing in the past and playing out What Ifs if just one scenario had gone differently. I’ve had trouble letting go for a very long time, and I’m still trying…

+3 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
We found out this week that our skeeball team – The Skeevil Dead – won top scoring team AND top scoring individual last week. Hopefully we continue this trend through the finals.

+1 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
As previously mentioned, I removed auto-pay from all of my major accounts. It was making me feel disconnected from my money and less in control. The act of paying my bills every other week forces me to dig deep into my budget and see what I’ve been spending and what’s left.

-2 Intelligence – How did I make myself a little smarter? What did I learn?
I learned that even planning a relatively small elopement is pretty involved. And I think I have wedding brain.

-3 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
Awkward mess alert. The highlight of my week was dropping my favorite bottle of perfume on the bathroom floor (and my foot), shattering it. On the bright side, my bathroom smells magical now…

+1 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
My spin addiction is back! I seriously recommitted to myself and my health this week. I ate nothing but good foods and juices and incorporated 2 new spin classes into my routine. My Tuesday night guy is SO motivating!

+2 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
I am so proud of how well I deflected cravings and said no to binge eating.

+1 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
If you dont work in a corporate bureaucracy, this will be less exciting for you, but my Webex license FINALLY got renewed. I can host meetings again!

+1 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
I’ve decided to revive my #NoSpendFeb experiment for August. Aside from wedding expenses and bills, minimize all spending! Speaking of bills, I have decided to take them OFF of auto-pay. For the last couple of months using auto-pay I have felt LESS in control of my money. It’s a reminder to do EVERYTHING with clear INTENTION.

+2 Intelligence – How did I make myself a little smarter? What did I learn?

I wrote a blog post for work which led to a speaking invitation for a community within my organization. Yay!

+3 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
This week, I went back home to Wildwood and did some shopping. I got some cute new summer looks from Miss Demeanor, fresh flip flops and these funfetti flavored Toms from Kona.

+1 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
Made it back to the gym! It’s so hard to wake up early but it’s worth it to get that endorphin rush!

+2 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
A visit to Cape May helped me restock on some supplies. I always love stopping at Good Scents for oils and incense. Lots of other shops are embracing the spiritual trends and stocking herbs, along with smudge bundles.

+1 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
Overall this week was productive and energetic. Seeing Beck’s first show at MSG was definitely the highlight. Definitely the best show I’ve seen all year!

-2 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
Soooo there’s an event type thing I’m planning and it’s draining some funds but for a very good reason. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

-3 Intelligence – How did I make myself a little smarter? What did I learn?
I was INCREDIBLY unfocused and distracted this week. So much work drama popped up and social obligations I would have rather turned down ensures my anxiety was beating up my brain. Next week, I plan to minimize distractions by blocking off my calendar for specific work, listening to my productivity playlist and turning off my internet for 3 hours while I work.

-2 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
I was stuck wearing my glasses all week and living the cliche nerd-girl trope of being awkward and clumsy. Here I am after spilling smoothie on my shirt at work. Cool.

The face of awkward geekdom

-2 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
Sigh… I can’t go to the gym in glasses. They sweat right off my face. Next week, everything changes- gym twice a day, 3x a week and no drinking on weeknights! I need to get into ideal shape by November.

+2 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
I did alot of spiritual work. Spells, meditation, tarot work… it felt really good. The biggest work was creating a money manifesting wallet, which I’ll write about later this week!

+1 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
Overall it was a good week. As you know, I judge the goodness of my weeks on how much cake there is. And this week, there was a ton of cake. Discovery Channel sent us Shark Week cupcakes, we had a birthday and a farewell party. And my ass is in dire need of the gym now.

-2 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
I took some financial hits this week. A February trip to the ER came back to bite me months later. I have a trip home next weekend longer than I was planning which means extra dog sitting expenses for Muldoon. And I had to buy new contacts. Why is life so expensive? Why does healthcare suck so much?

Liquid Meditation

liquid meditation

One of my favorite ways to relax into meditation is what I call the Liquid Meditation. Strangely, this was an exercise my computer teacher first led my 6th grade class thought. It’s become a powerful tool for me to refocus and relax any tension so I’d like to share it.

meditation

*Find a comfortable sitting position.

*Bring your attention to your breath and quiet your thoughts.

*Visualize your body as a clear, empty container with an opening at the crown of your head. What’s it made of? Plastic? Glass? Crystal?

*Now imagine there’s an endless vat of liquid floating above you. Think about the color of the liquid. It could align with one of your chakras, or your mood. What’s the consistency of the liquid? Is it smooth and slippery like oil? Is it thick like molasses? Is it fizzy like champagne? Lastly, think about the temperature. Is it a warm bath? Hot like lava? Cool like a river?

If it’s a lot to imagine, try one of these starters:
-Warm, molten milk chocolate
-Cold fresh squeezed orange juice
-Hot liquid gold
-Turquoise tropical sea water

*Visualize the liquid pouring slowly through the crown of your head. It first fills each of your toes, relaxing every nerve. Then your feet and heels. Slowly, the liquid fills each of your legs. Feel it envelope your muscles. As it spreads up and out into your hips, imagine them relaxing and opening to accommodate the liquid. (I like to stay in my hips for a bit since I hold a lot of tension there). Feel the liquid fill your belly, relaxing the muscles, relaxing the breath. Imagine your spine straightening, your ribcage opening up a little as it moved into your chest. As it fills your shoulders, it begins to spill over and down your arms, into your fingertips, hands, wrists, then all the way up your arms to the shoulders again. This is also a great place to spend some time, focusing on the weight and temperature of the liquid. Next, the liquid moves up your neck, to your chin and the base of your cranium. Up to your mouth, nose and cheekbones, eyes, ears, forehead. Finally reaching the top of your head and overflowing.

*Focus on your breathing again. You should feel super relaxed and content.

What’s your favorite meditation practice?

+5 Intelligence – How did I make myself a little smarter? What did I learn?
I’ve been researching music lessons because I think an irl appointment will make me more accountable to my guitar learning process.

+2 Charisma – How was I less awkward or more beautiful?
Red eye mystery solved! My contacts were scratching my allergy swollen eyes. I’m getting new contacts after a week of dripping nasty gelatinous steroid drops in my eyeballs.

+1 Strength – New workouts, breakthroughs, challenges.
I got myself a couple of 3 lb free weights and use them to do some arm toning moves while I binge watch Jane the Virgin. +1 for multitasking!

+2 Defense – Where did I consciously avoid or deflect negative energy?
When I was 16, I didn’t really know what I was doing. But I cast a love spell… at it took 17 years to work, but here I am getting ready to marry the subject of that spell. To clear the air (and energy) and make sure this moves forward on his own free will (or doesn’t move forward at all), I started a love unbinding spell. The next phase of the spell will be on the New Moon this week.

+1 Luck – Something good that happened this week.
Working remote was a nice treat this week. But my big highlight was finally earning my Beast Growler as part of the Coney Island Brewery Mug Club! I filled it on the 4th of July with Coney Island Ale.

+3 Wealth – How did I save towards my goals?
Literally, plus 3. I had three dogs this week! Well, the goofy ham with his tongue hanging out is my Muldoon, but still! Holiday rates + 2 clients = a big bang in my bank account!
